Overview & First Impressions

The first thing you notice about these trousers is definitely the pattern. The multicoloured houndstooth is striking and feels perfect for autumn — I would say it is easily the standout feature of the piece.

They’re made from a wool fabric, so the exterior does feel slightly itchy, but nothing unwearable.
Another nice detail is that they’re made in Europe, which feels increasingly rare and is always a plus.

In terms of the cut, the silhouette sits somewhere between straight and slightly flared.

Details & Construction

The trousers are partially lined rather than fully lined, possibly to make altering the length easier, but this is something to note if you’re very sensitive to wool. The lining is made of viscose in a navy color.

They have a metal zip closure with an extra button at the waistband for a nicer and secure fit. The waistband is reinforced which adds structure and makes them feel well made.

The trousers also have functional pockets, and the tortoiseshell button ties in nicely with the colors in the houndstooth pattern.

Fit & Sizing

I ordered my usual size 38, and these fit better than most Sézane trousers do on me. I often find their cuts quite straight through the waist and hips. This pair fits nicely through the hips but the waist is just slightly loose, but still wearable without any issues. I’d recommend sticking with your usual size.

The length is supposed to hit around the ankle, but as with many Sézane bottoms, they run a bit long. On my height (165 cm), they hit at a bit awkward length – somewhere between ankle length and full length.

Fabric & Weight

The fabric is beautiful and made from 100% wool, so the outside feels slightly itchy on the touch, but nothing too noticeable. Since the trousers are lined almost all the way through, this shouldn’t be an issue unless you’re very sensitive to wool.

The pattern is described on the website as “cream, khaki, brown, and yellow houndstooth”, but there is also a hint of dark navy running through it. This makes the trousers easier to pair with a wider range of colors.

Since the trousers are made of wool, the  downside is that they are dry clean only, so keep that in consideration.

Final Thoughts

I would definitely recommend these trousers — the pattern is beautiful and classic, and they feel well made. They’re especially easy to pair if you already have a lot of brown, autumnal tones in your wardrobe. While they’re bold and interesting enough to stand out, they’re not too much for everyday wear, making them a great cold-season staple you can get a lot of wear out of.

Just make sure the fit works for you, as they’re an investment piece — and keep in mind they’re dry clean only.
